Biscuits
From Queen Paula Deen π and HRH Alton Brown
OPTION 1: MOST BUTTERY (Paula Deen)
2 cups flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 stick cold butter, cubed small π§
ΒΎ cup milk
OPTION 2: MOST TRADITIONAL (Altonβs grandmother)
2 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
2 tablespoons cold butter, cubed small π§
2 tablespoons Crisco, chilled
1 cup buttermilk, chilled
DIRECTIONS
- Preheat oven to 450ΒΊ 
- Combine dry ingredients in large bowl 
- Cut in butter until there are no large pieces (will look like cornmeal) 
- Make a well, pour in milk, toss in flour from sides to cover well 
- Using hands, reach down the sides of the bowl and bring the bottom contents onto the top. Continue gently combining the ingredients in this way until fully combined. 
- Add milk or flour if necessary 
- Plop mixture out onto floured surface and roll out 1β thick with floured rolling pin 
- Cut biscuits and place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper 
- Bake 15β20 min. or until golden brown (or desired color)
